Its my first day back in the big smoke after a short but wonderful trip to Edmonton to visit the family before they (most of them) jet off to England for Christmas (slightly jealous!). So surprisingly i got up early this morning, took the subway with H on his way to work and went to St. Laurence Market on Front Street. I’ve never been and have been meaning to for quite some time. Well i think i have died and gone to heaven. The amount and variety of fresh meat, fish, veggies, fruits and cheese boggles the mind!! They have EVERYTHING!! the cheese selection is amazing, huge wheels of every kind of cheese imaginable stacked high and cut to your liking, self serve olive bars, stuffed peppers, fresh buffalo mozzarella and feta, hummus, pesto and antipasto galore. They have crab legs and scallops the size of your fist, multiple kinds of atlantic smoked salmon, red snapper, sole, shrimp and prawns bigger than your hand! Ten different kinds of sausages, every cut of meat imaginable (and some i don’t want to imagine), dried and cured meats, pepperoni, bacon, and ….hmmm quails eggs!! And to top it off alot of it is from Ontario and at least Canada. Due to my piddly bank account as a student i bought some lovely sausages for breakfast tomorrow morning, some multi-colour tomatoes, sprouting baby broccoli, a couple of figs for experimenting, some grapes, fresh rosemary and bread. St. laurence Market, i’m your number one fan!
(oh i didn’t even mention the bakery and cakes! and macaroons! swoon)
PS sorry for the lack of photos (too distracted), and random photo of beautiful building on the walk home)
